Geography
Singapore is an island nation located in south-eastern Asia, between Malaysia and Indonesia, with good connecting flights to all global locations. The land mass is 697 square kilometres.
Climate
The climate is equatorial with little distinction between seasons. Its climate is characterised by uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity and abundant rainfall. The temperature typically ranges from 23 to 34 degrees Centigrade. The hottest month is June. Twice yearly (December/March and June/September) are the monsoon seasons.
Population
As of the last census in 2009, the total population was just over 4.6 million residents.
History
Singapore was founded as a British trading colony in 1819. It joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963 but separated two years later and became independent. Singapore subsequently became on of the world's most successful and prosperous countries, with strong international trading links and a high standard of living.
Economy
Singapore boasts a highly-developed free-market economy. It enjoys an open environment, stable prices and a Top10 level of GDP per capita. The economy depends heavily on exports (particularly in IT, services and pharmaceuticals) and has a rapidly-growing financial services sector that, together with the safe and high-quality lifestyle on offer, appeals to many professionals from the West.
